2009 has ushered in some pretty good new acts to the hard rock scene, and Charm City Devils is definitely one of them. Hard rock veteran John Allen has stepped away from his drum kit to take on the role of lead singer for this Baltimore based rock band.
John Allen wrote all of the songs and played a lot of the music on this disc. His friend and former band mate, Mitch Allan (from SR-71) produced the songs “Best of the Worst” and “Almost Home”.
So what does Charm City Devils sound like? They are a blues based hard rock act that has a sound that shows the influences of bands like AC/DC and Aerosmith and dishes out the swagger of Buckcherry. Does Let’s Rock-N-Roll rock? You bet it does!
CCD’s first single “Let’s Rock-N-Roll (Endless Road)” is one kick ass tune to get this disc started. (See video below) The up tempo rocker, “House of Fire” keeps the pace going nicely. In fact, the pace doesn’t let up until the mid tempo tune, “Best of the Worst”. One word describes this song, massive! This ought to be the second single from this disc.
“True Love (Hell Yeah) is cool stadium anthem that will get everyone throwing their hands in the air!
“Almost Home” is a slower number with heartfelt lyrics depicting a true story by John Allen. If you have ever had a breast cancer scare in your family, you need to hear this. This is a great song.
“Pour Me” is a whiskey soaked rocker that AC/DC wished they wrote.
The album closer, “Burn Baby Burn” is a simple rocking tune, but is extremely catchy and it will stick in your head after a couple of listens. This is a pretty cool way to close out this CD.
This songs on Let’s Rock N-Roll are filled with riff heavy guitar rock that should appeal to most hard rock fans. This is the type of CD that makes you want to crank the stereo knob to ten, and crack open your favorite adult beverage. Let’s Rock-N-Roll will definitely get the party started! Buy it!! You won’t be disappointed.
